About Our Firm

For 72 years, Watts & Scobie has been providing quality, personalized financial guidance to local individuals and businesses. Our expertise ranges from basic tax management and accounting services to more in-depth services such as audits, financial statements, and financial planning.

Watts & Scobie was founded by the late Walter A. Watts, and has served clients located in North Carolina and the southeastern United States.  By combining our partners' experience of over 75 years and that of our staff, we strive to provide outstanding and professional service so that every client receives the close analysis and attention they deserve. Our dedication to high standards and work ethic is the reason our client base returns year after year.

Our mission is to help clients maintain financial viability in the present, while taking a proactive approach to achieve future goals. Our Partners

J. Stanley Hill, CPA, CGMA

Stan is our Managing Partner and has over twenty-five years of experience in public accounting.  He has experience in the areas of agriculture, banking, construction, employee benefit and retirement plans, financial planning, information technology and outsourcing, manufacturing, professional services, real estate management, retail operations, tax representation and examinations, trade associations, and estates and trusts.  Prior to joining Watts & Scobie in 1989, Stan was with BB&T Trust in accounting operations, and KPMG Peat Marwick where he was an audit assistant.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also an active member with the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) where he currently serves as Chair-Elect on the Financial Literacy Council and a member of the Student Outreach and Recruitment Committee.  He is also currently a Board member and Immediate Past President of the NC CPA Foundation, which serves to promote the accounting profession to students and educators across the state of North Carolina offering scholarship opportunities to qualified applicants.  In past years with the NCACPA, Stan has served as: President of the Triangle Chapter of the NCACPA; Chairman of the Careers & Accounting Task Force; Chairman of the Member Connections Committee; and CPA Day of Service Organizer.

In the community, Stan is an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, where he is a financial literacy coordinator to youth and adults, a member of the Kingdom Builders Committee, Chairman of the Audit Committee and a vocalist with two worship teams.  He has held many other leadership responsibilities in his church over the past thirty years.  He also supports the UNCW Triangle Alumni Chapter through participation on the Steering Committee.

Stan received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1985 where he was active on campus in several service related organizations.

David E. Scobie, CPA

David has over fifty years of experience in public accounting.  He has experience in the areas of agriculture, business valuations, construction, employee benefit and retirement plans, financial planning, information technology and outsourcing, manufacturing, nonprofit entities, professional services, real estate management, real estate development, retail operations, tax representation and examinations, and estates and trusts.  Prior to joining Watts & Scobie in 1965, David was with Haskin & Sells.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also an active member with the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) where he currently serves on the Taxation Committee and continues to be a resource for the Taxation Technical Assistance Program.   In past years with the NCACPA, David has served as: Chair of the Taxation Committee; Chair of the Member Benefits Committee; and a member of the Accounting and Auditing Committee.

In the community, David is an active member of Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, the Rotary Club of West Raleigh and Hiram Masonic Lodge #40.

David received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1963.
